Posture chairs

Bad back.
Bad back.

Being in any kind of office environment where you spend most of your working life sitting down means getting a good posture chair. These are chairs specifically designed to fit with your back to support you while you work. If you don't use this then you can find problems build up in your back. These can lead to severe mobility problems as well as lost days at work due to back pain. Even with the best chair in the world it is best to take regular breaks from sitting and stretch your legs.

What to look out for when choosing a posture chair:
1. The chair needs to be able to fit your height, generally they will state the maximum height for a specific chair.
2. It is possible to have an inflatable lumbar support, this helps with specific problems in this area.
3. The chair must be able to be adjusted vertically and horizontally.

The body is not designed to be sitting down for extended periods of time, and even having a posture chair will not ensure that you are pain free, unless it has been adjusted correctly.
Procedure to adjust your chair correctly:
1. Sit at your desk, squarely in front of your computer.
2. Your elbows should be resting slightly above the desk, get in this position by adjusting the seat height.
3. Your thighs should be at 90 degree angles, this may mean getting a footrest if your feet are not touching the floor.
4. The top of the computer screen should be about level with your eyes, so change the level of the screen until this is about the correct position.
5. Adjust the horizontal seat depth, until you are sitting firmly against the back rest and have a small gap between the back of your legs and the seat pad.
6. Adjust the back rest height to match the small of the back.

How should I sit if I'm trying to stare down at the desk. For example when I'm doing homework or plainly reading a book.

When I sit down and face the top a the desk; I sit as close as possible to the desk and face down, which hurts my upper back and neck. It feels as if though this were to actually tighten my upper back muscles and the neck ones too.

I would apprecriate it if I could be e-mailed an answer or linked to a response page (if any) 7rancisco1@live.com

I am student trying to comfort posture as I do my school-work.

Thank you.
